Whose Voice Do You Hear…
Everyone has that one special person in their life, that one person whose words resonate and stay with you every single day of your life, that one person you know will watch over you always. Maybe it was your mother, your grandmother, a favorite aunt, a teacher, even a childhood friend. Who was the one person from your past whose words still guide you today?
In Yvette Manessis Corporon’s novel WHEN THE CYPRESS WHISPERS, Daphne’s grandmother tells her about the Cypress Whispers, inspiring her to listen to her own voice. From celebrity red carpet events to people on the street, everyone will be asking and answering the question this spring: Whose voice do you hear when the Cypress whispers? Here are some of the touching and inspirational answers we’ve already received:
Alec Baldwin:
When the cypress whispers I hear . . .
“. . . I hear the voice of my wife, Hilaria, who always pushes me to be my better self, to stay calm under some rather stressful circumstances ( I am not always successful here) and to realize how blessed we are in our lives, especially with Carmen, and how grateful we should be for all we have.”
Hilaria Baldwin:
When the cypress whispers I hear . . .
“. . . My mother telling me to listen to my body…always trust my body…because she never lies.”
Donald J. Trump:
When the cypress whispers I hear . . .
“. . . My father, Fred C. Trump was a wonderful father and mentor, and I think of him every day. I also remember his words of advice as well as the example he set both personally and professionally. He would emphasize the importance of having passion for your work and maintaining integrity of purpose that would remain solid in all situations. He would tell me to ‘know everything you can about what you are doing,’ which was great advice. He also gave me his four-step formula for success: get in, get it done, get it done right, and get out. Concise advice and it works.”
Padma Lakshmi:
When the cypress whispers I hear . . .
“. . . My grandfather, who always told me, it’s never what you do but how you do it. How you approach a task is as important as the task itself. So even when I’m doing something mundane or boring I try to bring passion and focus and give it my all.”
Maria Menounos:
When the cypress whispers I hear . . .
“. . . My mother telling me to keep dreaming as big as I can, to not let anyone stop me.”
Beth Stern:
When the cypress whispers I hear . . .
“. . . The voice of my late grandma, Sweetpea, telling me that every animal should be treated with respect, kindness, and love . . . and that we need to protect them and keep them safe always. My life is dedicated to saving animals’ lives. And grandma Sweetpea lives on in every one I help. She loved animals so much. I guess it’s in my blood!”
Miss Universe 2013 Gabriela Isler:
When the cypress whispers I hear . . .
“. . . My mom. She’s an incredibly hard-working, honest, and wise woman. She taught me all of my values. I remember her telling me to work hard at what I can control, but to live in peace with what I cannot. She always says to trust in God, and put the things that you cannot handle in His hands, because God’s timing is perfect”
Tony Dovolani, Dancing With The Stars
When the cypress whispers I hear . . .
“. . . I hear my grandfathers voice. That's where I get my courage. If I ever pray it's to him. If I ever need guidance I hear his voice. My values in life are from him and if I can ever be 10% like my grandfather I would consider my self a good man."
When the cypress whispers I hear…
- The nature
…I hear nature, telling me she’s there for me, that I can trust her and that all I am living now is just an illusion, ’cause nobody knows how did we manage to make our simple lives sooo complex…
- Both My Parents
My mom who has always been the voice of reason for me throughout my life and my dad for reminding me when I was young to always be happy and thankful with what I have.
- I hear my father
I hear my dad telling me to always reach for the stars and the world will be my oyster!
- My Mommy
I hear my mommy telling me to always reach for the moon because even when you stumble, you will land on a star.
- My mother
My mother, who was the most nurturing and loving parent a person could ever hope for. Her warmth stays with me wherever I go, and is a constant inspiration for me to be the best mother I can be possibly to be my own children.
- My Mother
I hear my mother speaking to me. Sometimes in a loud, and obvious way, and sometimes in a soft and soothing way. Her complete confidence in me and steadfast belief that I could do anything has always given me a cushion to land on. And her resounding faith in God is the single most important gift she gave me. Her faith, our faith, gives me courage every single day.
- My Father
My father, who through years of unending true and absolute love, as well as a great deal of patience has blessed me with the self confidence to tackle anything I choose in life.
- My Husband, Chuck
Chuck, supports and encourages me in being the best person I can be. Who loves me unconditionally and lifts me up when I need dusting off! He inspires me to work harder, tougher and smarter. He is our family’s rock!
- My Grandma, Dora
Later in life she battled Alzheimer’s disease so many things she said were incredibly repetitive but one phrase has always stuck with me: “Sit here, sit here.” Oh what I wouldn’t give to sit beside my grandma now.
- My Father
My father always said that it was our duty to help others that were less fortunate than ourselves because not all people are equally blessed in life. Compassion and kindness towards others is essential in life! I try to live by those words everyday!
